New Year, New Goals

Hi everyone, My name is Jin Zhang. I’m the new steward for MOLG starting out this new year.

Our 8.4 acre dog park has been through some challenges in the last year. Incidents of vandalism of vehicles, our maintenance tool shed burning down, and the departure of the Barkery are some that come to mind.

But things aren’t all bad. Thanks to the outgoing Steward Carrie Nolen, we secured new shiny gates which are ADA accessible, with more accessible trails in the works, and we can look forward to a beach renewed as work to address the erosion at the beach is currently ongoing! more space for (beach) activities! Estimated to be complete mid-feburary.

As the new steward I would like to further improve upon our beloved park and community space.

Some of our initiatives for 2024 are:

  1. Park enhancements
    1. Designing new signage throughout the park
    2. Commission a new map to enhance park user experience
  2. Hold art contests to design merch which will be sold to support work of local dog related non-profits and local artists
  3. Build a transparent system for submitting patron feedback and incident reports of issues that occur within our community to address park goer concerns.
  4. Document the history of dogs and dog related infrastructure in our fair city, and find ways to improve Magnuson into a world class dog park.
  5. Introduce educational, informative and news items on our social channels, as well as collaborate with local businesses to the benefit of our dog loving community.

To this end, We’re looking for a few good people!

We are in need of:

part time social media/community liaison interested in creative collaboration, and contributing to educational content, local pet related news items, and slice of life posts, funny memes etc.

Be the voice of the Magnuson dog loving community!

part time volunteer coordinator at Magnuson dog park, who would be part of event planning process, help maintain and enlist volunteers for community events, park cleanups, planting parties and seasonal events!

Must love people almost as much as you love animals!

aspiring or experienced writers with a passion for animals, pet ownership, animal welfare issues within society, the environment and the dog loving community to collaborate with and publish articles.

We have a platform, lend us your voices!

As a non-profit, we don’t have the income to to sustain these roles as paid positions so they are currently volunteer positions.

Please reach out at [email protected] if any of these interest you or if you would like to contribute any other skills!
